SuperTripLand 3.0.0.3

STL 3.0.0.3 - Camp Floatie, Stamina, & Servers

Whats been added:

  • New Map, Camp Floatie has been released
  • Stamina Wheel for cooldown while moving
  • Added Multi-Region infrastructure

Whats been fixed:

  • Fixed a lot of the player movement desynchronization. Movement should feel smoother
  • Fixed ADS being out of place when getting KO’d mid-reload
  • Fixed blur still remaining when getting KO’d while aiming

Known Issues:

  • Bugged out killcam! Will have fixed ASAP.
  • Moving up & down slopes is weird; gravity pushes player down slopes.
  • Colliders on players will randomly stop working mid-match.

New Map: Camp Floatie

Welcome to Camp Floatie :) But where are the floaties, you might ask? We decided to name this map just after pushing the update, so we aren’t exactly sure yet what a ‘Camp Floatie’ is—but we have many cool ideas which can work hand-in-hand with some new features we have coming up. The floaties are the original SuperTripNexus piece and are going to finally have their time to shine in STL3.

Camp Floatie is much larger than our initial beta testing map, but still true to the original Beta Testing map’s feel with its checkerboard pattern. It also has a slight touch of WAGMI World to it, with its nighttime aesthetic. This map was a much-needed upgrade from the original map and will be a great testing ground for what we have coming up.

Stamina Cooldown

We’ve added a stamina system to balance running and sliding, responding to player feedback about sliding being overpowered. When the wheel runs out, you must wait for it to fully reload before being able to run again. Move with strategy. We are going to be fine-tuning the values of this stamina over the coming updates, so please give feedback if there is anything that feels weird about the movement in your mind. We will also make the UI/Feedbacks for when you are using/running out of stamina much more obvious.

STL3 is your game! All feedback is welcome :)

Region Selection

We added global server infrastructure in 3.0.0.3. As of right now, we have servers in NYC, San Francisco, and Frankfurt, but can easily deploy servers in new regions via one Bash Shell script. Currently, the beta testing site has no region selector, so all players are still sent to NYC; however, the infrastructure of servers is now set up, and all that’s needed is a UI to empower it.

Without getting into the specifics, the number of servers we use dynamically scales based on the number of players who are online. This ensures we aren’t wasting money on server costs, but also ensures the game can meet the demands of players whenever it needs to.

This is the most advanced we have ever gotten with SuperTripLands Networking infrastructure, and we are really proud to have it up and running. We are no longer constrained by third-party providers and have complete control over how our servers are being managed, orchestrated, and run.

That’s all for 3.0.0.3. This update featured some big-ticket items we had to get out of the way before moving on to more fun features. The old map was too constrained, and the game servers were running on one cheap NYC server. But now, we have Camp Floatie and global server infrastructure. Fun stuff. Stay tuned for 3.0.0.4 updates!
